All these words about enhancing intelligence, yet you don’t question a basic assumption: does having smarter people actually make for a better world?

This is the classic smart person mistake. In reality, a world run entirely by gardeners would probably be a more peaceful and beautiful one.

But does having smarter people actually lead to a more meaningful, more beautiful, or more [insert deeper significant value here] world?

If “smart people make more money and have more economic development” is all you’ve got, I’m afraid you’ve pretty much just make my point for me.
